MAKE MY DAY!

"When you make someone's day, you don't just make his or her day, because there's a good chance that he or she will make someone else's day."

Mark Batterson
Chase The Lion   p. 35/Nook
Multnomah 2016

Dijon, at Caribou, saw me coming. The featured coffee of the morning was Eclipse, my least favorite. He brewed a fresh pot of Mahogany. Wow! This guy persues excellence in customer service.

What a nice way to start work on a holiday weekend.

Thanks Dijon!

DEFENDING GOD

"It may surprise us to consider that God doesn't need us to defend Him. He wants us to represent Him! That takes time, work, restraint, and love."

                                    .          .        .       .

" The best way to defend Jesus is to live like Him."

The accompanying Scripture made me smile . . . No, laugh.

" Lord, do You want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?"  Luke 9:54

Seriously?! Do you want us? They were talking to God!
We do it a bit differently. We argue until one of us gives up. Ish.

BRANDS OF FREEDOM

"Freedom of religion means you can practice your faith in public, you can educate your children in the faith, you can evangelize . . . Freedom of worship, however is something less. It means you can worship how you please, so long as you keep it private. (Emphasis mine)

Chuck Colson
My Final Word  p. 141
Zondervan   2015

Freedom of religion, to me, looks like the right to "live out" my Christian convictions; to possess the greatest news ever, with the freedom to share it generously. What does freedom of religion look like to you?

YOU HAVE 10 MINUTES!

"On January 20, 1921, George Washington Carver testified before the House Ways and Means Committee on behalf of the United Peanut Association of America. The chairman, Joseph Fordney of Michigan, told him he had ten minutes. An hour and forty minutes later, the committee told Carver he could come back whenever he wanted and take as much time as he needed."

Mark Batterson
Draw The Circle  p. 54
Zondervan  2012

Carver mesmerized the committee with his multiple uses for peanuts. But it all began in the woods--4:00 A.M.-- every day--his daily chat with God.

God's Word says He opens doors that no man can shut.

What door might God be desiring to open for you, and for the good of many?

A FEW GOOD MEN . . . AND WOMEN

"God is looking for a few good men and women. Men and women who are willing to go against the current of popular opinion, to hold firm convictions in a world where 'anything goes,' to speak the truth when it's not politically correct, and to walk with God when everyone else is running away from Him."

Anne Graham Lotz
Fixing My Eyes On Jesus  p. 143

WHAT ARE WE BUILDING?

"Words are bricks, which, depending on how you use them, can pave pathways or build high walls."

Jeff Chu
Does Jesus Really Love Me?
A Gay Christian's Pilgrimage in Search of God in America  p. 2
Harper Collins   2013

I love this quote, but the book has challenged me to the core! I like simple. I like black and white. This offers neither.

REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT

"We're so focused on God changing our circumstances that we never allow God to change us! So instead of ten or twenty years of experience, we have one year of experience repeated ten or twenty times."

Prayer

This morning I prayed for the Trump family and their Sabbath day--too much to include all; but that they could just be who they are. That no one would try to gain political favors from President Trump; and that Trump, also, would not use church for political gain.

And now, I pray Prov 3:3-4 for myself, the Body of Christ and for President Trump.

"God, let kindness and truth not leave him. Help him to bind them around his neck, and write them on the tablet of his heart,

So that he will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man."

Amen

TOUCH

" While there (East Africa), Kiley met a woman with a horrible  but treatable disease. The woman's distorted leg repulsed her, but Kiley knew she had to do something. As she cleaned and bandaged the leg, her patient began crying. Concerned, Kiley asked if she was hurting her.

"No," she replied. "It's the first time anyone has touched me in NINE YEARS.'"

Okay. Think single people--widows and widowers--divorced--physically and mentally challenged--AIDS patients. I know there are many I'm forgetting. Please use the comment field or facebook to add to the list.

If not a hug, how about a handshake or a quick touch to the arm or shoulder?
